One of the permitted red grape varieties for Bordeaux but also does well in the Loire with wines like Chinon. Favouring a cooler climate it produces a lighter style than Cabernet Sauvignon, it has perfumed notes of violets, raspberries, black currant and a hint of green leaf. Argentina recently has been producing amazing wines from Cabernet Franc, rivalling the main grape of Malbec.
